The Great Barton Gurning Contest - Saturday 28th November
Getting the Black Friday blues? Stressed about the Christmas shopping?
Why not take a break on Saturday the 28th November and have a bit of a laugh at St James' Christmas Fayre in Barton-under-Needwood, where they are reviving the centuries-old tradition of gurning.
The Great Barton Gurning Contest will take place at 12 noon in St James' Hall, Barton. The sailors in Nelson's navy used to amuse each other by Gurning, but the prizes on offer in Barton are no laughing matter. There is a bottle of whisky for the best adult Gurner and a mega box of sweets for the best under-14.
Santa is visiting between 11am and noon to join the Christmas fun with presents for just a pound. There are also, great opportunities for you to pick up a bargain present or two, win chocolate and your Christmas cheer, or get your Mistletoe ready for a Christmas kiss! - there is something for all the family.
The Fayre is in the Church Hall and opens at 10.30am and finishes at 1.00pm. Further details are available on our website:
